Our ministry is shaped by our purpose statement: Living Word is a boldly inclusive community of hope for all.

Our lives are shaped by our faith. All that we do stems from our freedom in Christ and our calling as followers of Christ. Therefore we gather in worship, faith formation, outreach, fellowship, and interaction with the wider community in joyful response to what God has done for us.

Faith Formation
Being a disciple, a follower of Christ, is a lifelong journey. Faith formation encompasses a myriad of steps on this journey: Bible study, prayer, justice and advocacy work, stewardship (the care of resources), and more. This area includes:
Advocacy
We follow our baptismal calling to "strive for justice and peace in all the earth."

We work with both Central Texas Interfaith and Texas Impact to advocate for better laws, resources, and support systems for Texans.

Outreach
Service is an integral part of our life of faith. We strive to serve not as charity but as a way to make our community more just, to ensure that all have everything they need.

Our ministry partners include

Our regular service work includes

  • Annual first responders' dinner
  • Stocking stuffing for Hays Caldwell Women's Center
  • Advent/Christmas donations to ELCA Good Gifts
  • Regular food distribution and food drives
  • Backpack/school supply drive
Fellowship
We gather together to have fun and connect based on age, life situation, or affinities.
  • Book club
  • Congregational dinners
  • Coffee hour after worship
  • OWLS (older, wiser Lutherans)--those 21 and up
  • Caroling at Natural Bridge Caverns
Community Events
Just as we gather in fellowship as a congregation, we gather with the wider community for fun!

We participate in Buda's Weiner Dog races,  BudaFest, and the San Marcos Pride Parade each year, as well as other events as we are able.
